News From Our Officers

Coordinator:
I was very disappointed for our last meeting to only have 11 people show up and 4 off them were officers. If we are going to make things happen, we must have your participation. Changes are going to be discussed at our next meeting and we need everyone to attend. Everyone should know by now that our meetings are held every second Saturday of the month at 12 noon. The place will be announced at the prior meeting and posted on the website. If you every have a questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call. All officer’s phone numbers are below. Store them in your phone for when you might need them. Please remember why you joined ABATE and help support it.

Assistant Coordinator
Hi all,
Well, we are into the new year and we have several things planned for this year. I would really like to see the attendance pick up at our meetings so that more people can get involved and help us to get things going. This past year, the officers did everything. We don't mind the work load, but it takes away from ABATE as a whole from doing more. There were several things we should have done this past year but were unable because of the lack of help.   Folks, we have seventy ( 70 ) registered members in our chapter and we only have 10 to 20 members show up at the meetings. Seven of these people are officers. We really need your input and help to tackle issues at hand, and to help us with benefits we have through out the year.
On February 3rd, our case involving the helmet law issue will be heard in the state supreme court in Columbia. Our attorney Tom McGrath has been working very hard on this case for us and feels very positive that we will beat the city of myrtle beach. We will be discussing the out come of this case at our next meeting. We also want to jump on the surfside beach smoking ban. This has not been a real big issue until the last few months. The law has been on the books for over a year now but, they never enforced it until recently. This is becoming a problem for bar and restaurant owners in surfside. It does not matter if you smoke or not, we still need your input on this issue. The real issue here is weather or not the city government (BIG BROTHER) can dictate to a business owner on how to run his or her business. The city has already threatened to pull the business license from three different business for non compliance. two of these business have been around for over thirty years. I am going to try to get as many of the owners as I can to attend our next meeting so we can hear their views on this matter.
Our next meeting will be held on Saturday February 13th at The Pub (formally pub & grub) in the big block junction on Hwy. 544. The officers meeting will be at 11:00 am, and the regular meeting will be at noon. If you have any questions or need directions, please call one of the officers. All of our numbers are listed in this news letter and on our web site www.horryabate.com  .Also please remember that our meetings are always held on the second Saturday of every month. The only thing that changes is the location. We do this in order to help give our sponsors some business. This year, instead of changing locations every month, we will use a location for three months and then change for another three months. We hope this will cut down on the confusion of wear we are meeting and will help improve attendance. This will be our second meeting at this location. Our January meeting was held there.
Well, I have bored you long enough. I hope to see all of you at our next meeting. PLEASE RIDE SAFE !!

Secretary

Hi guys and gals,
Its me Sylvia. Your new secretary. I was disappointed at the turnout we had at our last meeting on January 9th. We only had 11 people there and 4 of them were officers. I hope to see more of our members at the next meeting so I can get a chance to meet everyone. I would like to thank everyone who helped us during the toy run in December. You all did a great job. I would also like to thank all our sponsors and also the Christian club for serving the coffee and pastries that kept us going and kept us warm. Without you guys the cold temperatures would have been unbearable.
I hope to see all of you at our next meeting on February 13th.

See you there,
Sylvia Poston
Horry ABATE Secretary
